March has arrived, which means the days are getting longer, the sun is getting warmer, and “spring conditions” are right around the corner. Spring skiing is a beloved tradition. It’s the time of year when you can shed the heavy parkas, ski in a light jacket (or a t-shirt!), and enjoy outdoor après-ski parties on sunny patios.
Here are some of our favorite destinations for catching the best spring skiing vibes:
1. Palisades Tahoe, California
Formerly known as Squaw Valley, Palisades Tahoe is the undisputed king of spring skiing in the US. Known as the “Spring Skiing Capital,” the resort frequently stays open into late May or even July! The mountain is famous for its vibrant spring culture, complete with pond skimming contests and hot tub parties at high elevation.
2. Arapahoe Basin, Colorado
A-Basin boasts one of the highest skiable terrains in North America, which keeps its snow cold and preserved long after other resorts have melted out. Their “Beach” parking area at the base of the mountain turns into a massive, multi-week tailgating party every spring.
3. Mammoth Mountain, California
Mammoth lives up to its name, especially when it comes to snowpack. Thanks to its massive elevation and favorable location in the Sierra Nevadas, Mammoth routinely operates through Memorial Day and into summer, offering incredible corn snow and massive terrain parks.
4. Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia
Spring in Whistler is incredible because you can often ski fresh powder in the high alpine bowls while the base village is warm enough for mountain biking and patio beers. The World Ski & Snowboard Festival in April brings massive free concerts and events to the village.
