Tucked away in the breathtaking Stanislaus National Forest of the central Sierra Nevada, Bear Valley is a hidden gem of California skiing. Opened in 1967, the resort offers a laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere that contrasts sharply with the crowded mega-resorts of Lake Tahoe. Known for its incredible panoramic views of the high Sierra and the Mokelumne River watershed, Bear Valley delivers a pure, unpretentious alpine experience.
Bear Valley offers a substantial 1,900-foot vertical drop and 1,680 skiable acres, providing plenty of room to roam without the massive lift lines. The mountain features 75 named trails serviced by 10 lifts. The terrain layout is unique, with the day lodge located mid-mountain. Beginners can comfortably cruise the upper plateau, while intermediate and advanced skiers can dive into the steeper, sustained pitches of the lower mountain or explore the challenging glades of Grizzly Bowl when the snow is deep.
