About Big Sky Resort

Living up to its motto as “The Biggest Skiing in America,” Big Sky Resort in Montana is a colossal winter destination. Founded in 1973 by legendary news broadcaster Chet Huntley, the resort is anchored by the imposing 11,166-foot Lone Mountain. Known for its lack of lift lines, massive annual snowfall, and expansive terrain, Big Sky offers an uncrowded, raw, and awe-inspiring alpine experience in the Northern Rockies.

Terrain and Trails

Big Sky boasts a staggering 5,850 skiable acres and a jaw-dropping 4,350-foot vertical drop. With 38 lifts—including the state-of-the-art Lone Peak Tram—the mountain offers everything from rolling groomers to some of the most extreme inbound terrain in the world. Expert skiers line up to drop into the legendary “Big Couloir,” a 50-degree pitch requiring a beacon and sign-out, while intermediates can cruise endless miles of blue runs under the shadow of the summit.
