About Cannon Mountain

Located in picturesque Franconia Notch State Park, Cannon Mountain is a rugged, historic New Hampshire legend. Opened in 1938, it is famous for operating the first passenger aerial tramway in North America. Owned and operated by the State of New Hampshire, Cannon is known for its classic, old-school New England character, boasting the highest vertical drop in the state at 2,180 feet. With 285 acres of skiable terrain, it offers breathtaking views of the White Mountains and Mount Lafayette.

Terrain and Trails

Cannon is notoriously challenging, earning its reputation as a “skier’s mountain.” It features 97 trails and glades serviced by 10 lifts, including the iconic 80-passenger Aerial Tramway. While there is a dedicated beginner area at the Tuckerbrook learning center, the mountain is heavily weighted toward intermediate and expert terrain. Advanced skiers seek out the legendary Front Five trails and the infamous DJ’s Tramline, a steep, narrow chute directly under the tram cables that is rarely open due to its extreme nature.
