About Kirkwood

Tucked away south of Lake Tahoe, Kirkwood Mountain Resort is a big-mountain paradise renowned for its deep snow and challenging terrain. Opened in 1972, the resort sits at a high base elevation of 7,800 feet. This unique geography creates the legendary “K-Factor,” a meteorological phenomenon that routinely brings Kirkwood massive dumps of light, dry powder, often leading the region in total snowfall.

Terrain and Trails

Kirkwood offers 2,300 skiable acres and a 2,000-foot vertical drop, accessed by 15 lifts. The mountain is famous for its steep, advanced terrain, dramatic cornices, and narrow chutes. The infamous The Wall is a rite of passage for expert skiers, offering a steep, double-black pitch right off the lift. Sentinel Bowl and The Wave provide expansive, open powder riding for those looking to push their limits in ungroomed snow.
