About Sun Valley

Opened in 1936 by Union Pacific Railroad chairman Averell Harriman, Sun Valley in Idaho is widely celebrated as America’s first destination ski resort. It revolutionized the winter sports industry by installing the world’s very first chairlifts. Long favored by Hollywood elite and literary giants like Ernest Hemingway, Sun Valley seamlessly blends historic luxury with sun-drenched, world-class skiing.

Terrain and Trails

Sun Valley encompasses two mountains—Bald Mountain (“Baldy”) and Dollar Mountain—offering a combined 2,054 skiable acres and a staggering 3,400-foot vertical drop. With 18 modern lifts, the resort is famous for its lack of lift lines and impeccable grooming. “Baldy” features long, sustained-pitch runs like Warm Springs and the legendary mogul field Exhibition, while Dollar Mountain serves as an ideal, gentle playground for beginners and freestyle riders.
