Located just over the Illinois border in Wisconsin, Wilmot Mountain has been a beloved Midwest ski institution since it was founded in 1938 by Walter Stopa. Acquired by Vail Resorts in 2016 and subsequently revitalized with a massive $13 million renovation, Wilmot serves as a crucial “feeder” hill where generations of Chicago and Milwaukee residents have learned to ski.
Though its vertical drop is a modest 190 feet, Wilmot makes the absolute most of its 120 skiable acres. The area features 25 trails and is heavily supported by 10 lifts (including 7 chairs and 3 surface lifts) to keep the crowds moving efficiently. Runs like State Line and Exhibition offer quick, satisfying carving, while a robust terrain park system and a large, dedicated tubing hill provide varied thrills for all ages.
Curious about the conditions before making the short drive up from the city? Our live webcams provide a direct view of Wilmot’s base area and terrain parks. Use these feeds to gauge crowd sizes and check out the snowmaking progress. Combine this visual check with our live weather and temperature widgets above to perfectly plan your Midwest ski session.
