Perched atop the Continental Divide in southern Colorado, Wolf Creek Ski Area is famous for one thing above all else: snow. Opened in 1939, this fiercely independent, family-owned resort routinely claims the title of “Most Snow in Colorado,” averaging an incredible 430 inches of natural snowfall each season. It eschews the massive base villages of mega-resorts in favor of a pure, unadulterated powder-skiing experience.
Wolf Creek offers 1,600 skiable acres and a vertical drop of 1,604 feet, all serviced by 10 lifts. The terrain leans heavily toward intermediate and advanced riders, with the upper mountain acting as a playground of steep glades and cliff drops. Hikers who traverse out to the Alberta Peak or the Waterfall area are routinely rewarded with waist-deep, untracked powder stashes that last for days after a storm.
With storms frequently dumping feet of snow at a time, checking our live webcams at Wolf Creek is highly recommended. The feeds offer a real-time look at the deep snowpack around the Treasure and Summit lifts. Always reference the live weather and temperature data above to ensure you are ready for the deep freeze that often accompanies a massive San Juan mountain powder day.
